Let's really get inside their head...
Personality: Trent is a very friendly, upbeat guy. He can be a little lackadaisical at times, but when push comes to shove, his resolve cannot be swayed. Despite his friendly demeanor, this isn't to say he doesn't have his share of skeletons in his closet. He's still very bitter about the fact that God did nothing to stop the infection outbreak or what happened to his family, and is very on the fence about the existence of a higher power because of this.
Trent also has a very protective streak. He likes to be everyone's big brother, but can be a little self-destructive at times; he'll risk not being able to return to his body if it means serving his allies' cause. Despite the strong façade he shows, he's very squeamish and has anxiety about killing Carriers or Infected because he still sees the humans they once were and swears that he can just barely make out emotional output.
To relax himself, he smokes marijuana cigarettes he has hidden in airtight steel cases he came upon a couple years after the outbreak. He secretly smoked in his early teen years, and had a stash since before the virus struck that he has been carefully rationing. He still goes out of his way to acquire the herb, as it is one of the main ways he keeps his anxiety under control.
Likes: at least 3 Smoking pot, hiking, drinking, rom-coms, 1960's TV shows, astrology, stargazing
Dislikes: at least 3 Uptight/demanding people, control freaks, curry, death metal, slasher films, denim jackets, haircuts
Strengths: Able to sense a person's body from a block away, projections can feel presences, superb upper body strength, easily befriended, strong conviction once motivated
Weaknesses: Projections unable to travel more than the length of 2 football fields from body, unwilling to confront infected, prone to anxiety/panic attacks, disregard for personal safety
Fears: hemophobic, anxiety about killing a Carrier or Infected
Family:
Father, Hugh; Deceased, killed by daughter
Mother, Denice; Deceased, killed by daughter
Older Sister, Theresa; Infected, location unknown, presumed dead
History: at least 2-3 paragraphs Trent Osgood was born May 10, 2026 to Hugh and Denice Osgood in the small Chicago suburb of Elmhurst. He had an average, fairly religious upbringing, but as he grew older, began to question faith. His older sister was the perfect image of a prudish church-goer — despised any kind of sexual innuendo, refused to wear modern clothing trends, and always kept a bible within arm's reach. Their parents sometimes worried about her, but they wouldn't have to worry for very long.
In 2040, the virus was released, and within weeks, there were reports all over the news of people being attacked, killed, and even eaten. The Osgood family, minus Trent, spent every day praying that this would end soon. One day, while praying, Theresa began to cough. It worsened quickly, leading to retching and dry-heaving. Denice went to fetch water from the church kitchen, but when she returned, her daughter was eating her father. She screamed, alerting the deranged Therasa.
Hours passed, and Trent's parents hadn't returned. He decided he would investigate despite the dangerous conditions, being the incorrigible teenager he was. As he approached the church front door, an overwhelming sensation of fear welled up inside him. He knew someone was inside, but how? And there was only 1 person. How could he know this without looking inside? Confused, Trent opened the door slowly and peeked inside. The sight he witnessed was horrific. His older sister was feasting on the mangled, bloodied bodies of their parents!
Trent muffled a scream, tears flowing from his eyes, and closed the door. He ran for home, sobbing. Throwing the front door open, he ran into his room and grabbed several articles of clothing as and stuffed them into his backpack. He'd made a plan if anything like this were to happen. The sobbing had stopped, but he still trembled. He was scared and sad, but resolute.
Throughout the years after the outbreak, Trent wandered through northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. He was able to bring a couple close friends who had suffered similar fates with him, but after several months, they caught the virus, and he was forced to leave them. He returned to the Chicagoland suburbs after several years of travelling the midwest, and found his hometown almost completely destroyed.
What do you think of this situation? It could be worse.
RP sample: at least 2 paragraphs--you only have to do this once
The sky was a cool grey, ominous and foreboding. The tall olive-skinned, black haired man slowly opened the zoo gates, rusted over from lack of upkeep. Grass and weeds tugged at the man's ruddy sneakers, further ruining the suede that had long since turned grey and matted.
He trudged through the grass, tearing some from its roots until he reached what remained of a stone walkway. After picking off bits of dirt and refuse, he continued to walk. He dared not make any noise, as he hadn't made an excursion to the zoo since the outbreak.
As he walked through the dilapidated remains, memories prodded his conscious here and there, tugging at his heartstrings; memories of his family being happy and whole. Now, he mused, he was all alone. Alone and, quite frankly, terrified out of his mind.
Hearing a noise behind him, he called out in a whisper, "Who's there!?" But all that remained was a patch of wind disturbed by a swift, invisible movement. "Shit," he muttered under his breath.
