It's 2050, and America has pretty much gone to hell. Ten years ago, a virus was released from a lab in New Jersey, turning everyone who contracted it into raving, mindless beasts. Now, only a fraction of the population survives: Immunes, whose bodies rejected the virus entirely, and Carriers, who internalized the virus without letting it consume them. Infected run rampant in major cities, and for the Immunes and Carriers, every day is a struggle to survive.

But there are those with ulterior motives, even in this broken world. Stella's Freedom, an organization that fights to kill as many Infected as possible, and the mysterious Cult of the Possessor have emerged and will stop at nothing to see their goals realized. How will this affect the Immunes and Carriers who are just trying to get by? For in Desecration's Smile, you're not just fighting for your life... you're fighting for your humanity.

[ ]Required Reading (1 sub-board)
Here is all the backstory behind the Desecration's Smile universe--the plot, the timeline, the have/have not list, and the description of each species. We highly recommend that you read over all of this, because a post-apocalyptic world can be more complicated than you'd think. Oh, and the rules are here, too.

Chicago
[ ]Streets
The streets of Chicago... everything from the glitzy Magnificent Mile to the shady Lower Wacker Dr. They might seem deserted, but you never know when an Infected could be lurking in the shadows.
00
[ ]Daley Plaza
Named for the longtime mayor Richard J. Daley and his oft-corrupt legacy, Daley Plaza is a major "drop point" for supplies. Once a month, food and other necessities are flown in and deposited in front of the looming Picasso sculpture; Immunes have to move quickly, however, if they want to get their hands on the supplies. If you wait too long, Infected will tear into the supplies, and you'll have to resort to foraging through convenience stores.
00
[ ]Mercy Hospital
Needless to say, the hospital isn't as bustling as it used to be--but it's still stocked with all its supplies and tools. It'll still take some medical know-how if you want to perform a complicated surgery, but any layperson could use the supplies to fix up a tourniquet or splint... or give themselves a nice injection of adrenaline.
00
[ ]Lincoln Park Zoo
Once an extensive and well-kept zoo, after the Mange Virus hit, Lincoln Park Zoo descended into chaos. Tread with caution around here--you never know when you'll run into a hungry escaped lion.
00
[ ]Navy Pier (1 sub-board)
Navy Pier was one of the last places that people fled to when the Mange Virus reached Chicago. Thus a place that was once a center for laughter and fun became the final stronghold against the Infected... a stronghold that inevitably fell. Now the stores are empty, the rides are motionless, and the theater has fallen into disrepair.
00
[ ]Monroe Harbor
Though most of their owners have gone furry, Monroe Harbor is still packed with boats of all kinds. If you're creative you might be able to get them going again; and since no one's dumping pollution into Lake Michigan anymore, there's plenty of fish out there.
00
[ ]The Field Museum
Despite being located perilously close to Soldier Field, this old natural history museum is relatively quiet. Every once in a while an Infected will roam through and nibble on the animal exhibits, but for the most part the most threatening thing you'll find here is Sue, the t-rex skeleton.
00
[ ]Soldier Field
If you know what's good for you, you'll stay the hell away from Soldier Field. Not because of the horridly contrasting architecture--part toilet bowl, part alien spaceship, part greek temple--but because this is the single largest den of Infected in the city. The hallways, the stands, even the field are teeming with them. Anyone who wanders too close to here obviously has a death wish.
00
[ ]Gold Coast Estates
Once the home of the high class, this extravagant condo has it own pool, sit down restaurant, and bar. Of course, the pool's gotten mucky, the restaurant hasn't been used in years, and the bar is gathering dust (but hey, all that wine and whisky must be aged perfectly by now). Still, most of the rooms are in decent condition; with a little elbow grease, the Gold Coast Estates could easily be made livable again.
00
[ ]Bayside Apartments
The Bayside Apartment complexes aren't really by the bay. However, there is a gorgeous view of Lake Michigan. Not every room is lucky enough to have a view of the shimmering lake, but about half the rooms do. Ironically enough, only the odd numbered rooms have views of the lake worth seeing.

The Suburbs & Beyond
[ ]The Wilds
This is all the land that Immunes have neglected to keep tame; forest preserves that have grown past their boundaries, plains that used to be empty lots, parks choked with weeds. If you know where to look, though, you can find plenty of game to hunt.

[ ]Haven
Actually located in the suburbs about an hour's drive away from Chicago, Haven is a townhouse that many Immunes call home. The name was first spawned when someone half-jokingly nailed a wooden sign that said "Haven" to the mailbox during the early days of the Mange's spread; the name stuck, and ever since, the house has welcomed anyone who's wandered across it. With three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, a normal-size family could live here comfortably. However, the Haven group is about two sizes larger than "normal". Haven gets cramped and hectic at times, but it's safe, and everyone looks out for each other.

[ ]20E282 Spyglass Court
About a mile away from Haven, this weathered townhouse has served as a temporary shelter for many a person. Without a generator, though, no one has yet made this place a permanent residence. A few non-perishable foods are still in the pantry--tokens left behind by the previous inhabitants to help out the new ones.

[ ]Sanctum of The Possessor (4 sub-boards)
An immune sanctuary shrouded in conspiracy. The only proof of its existence is in its radio broadcasts, which have known to contain fanatical religious rants. Perhaps its location will be found by the survivors one day?
